As the main resort town on Phuket, Patong is known for its nightlife and scenic beachfront. Clubs, restaurants and outdoor bars lit by hundreds of neon signs fill up nightly with tourists looking to party. Families will love exploring the wide beaches, blue-green waters and town markets.
Patong Beach stretches along 3 kilometres (2 miles) of coastline. Hills extend out into the water on both sides of the beach, forming a gorgeous protected bay. Hire a powerboat and go wakeboarding, waterskiing or parasailing around the bay. Otherwise, navigate the water at a slower pace on a sailboard or in a kayak. Hire snorkelling equipment and head to the rocks on the north side of the beach and discover exotic marine life. If you get hungry, order something from a beach vendor. Enjoy a burger and sip a cocktail, all without leaving the sand.
On the beach you will find many Patong locals selling handmade items like carved wooden trinkets, jewellery and clothing. Barter with one of these vendors or browse the downtown shops for souvenirs. In the evenings, the pavements fill up with markets.
Patong’s nightclubs are spread around two main areas: Bangla Road and the Paradise Complex. These lively districts are worth a visit but only if you enjoy the nightlife.
For a change of pace, visit some of the area’s other attractions and beaches. Kamala Beach, 8 kilometres (5 miles) north of Patong, is great for families. Spend a day enjoying the tranquility and scenery of Kata Noi Beach, just over 10 kilometres (6 miles) south of Patong. Keep travelling south to sleepy Nai Harn Beach and watch the sunset at Promthep Cape, the southernmost tip of the island. Organise a longer adventure to visit Ao Phang Nga National Park where you can take a canoe trip around spectacular limestone rock formations.
Patong is located 36 kilometres (22 miles) from the island’s international airport and 16 kilometres (10 miles) west of Phuket Town. Relax on the beach by day and party the night away in this irresistible beachfront destination.
