Experience the beautiful blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, sip on sangria in a beachside bar and take part in the city’s nightlife at the Barcelona’s renowned beach.

Barceloneta Beach is sandwiched between the bustling city of Barcelona and the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Located near La Rambla, this popular beach is the highlight of the lively neighbourhood of the same name, Barceloneta. Enjoy a day of relaxation and fun in this gorgeous Mediterranean environment.

Barceloneta Beach is the city’s favourite beach destination. The shore can get very crowded, so visitors who want the best spots on the sand should arrive early. Take advantage of the beach’s many amenities, such as changing facilities, showers and umbrella rentals. Sports-loving beachgoers should join in on a beach volleyball game or go windsurfing in the Mediterranean’s warm waters.

Walk down Passeig Marítim. This seaside boardwalk is lined with palm trees and is the ideal place to go for a jog. Be sure to visit German artist Rebecca Horn’s public art piece Homenatge a la Barcelona, which is made of four metal cubes stacked on top of each other. Look to the horizon to see architect Frank Gehry’s 56-metre (184 foot) long golden fish statue, the Piex d’Or.

Lining Barceloneta Beach is a wide variety of bars and restaurants. Have a drink or get a bite to eat at a chiringuito. These alfresco bars, which are right on the beach, serve excellent paella and sangria. When night falls, many chiringuito’s have live music and dancing

For excellent nightlife, head north to Port Olímpic. Constructed for use during the 1992 Summer Olympic Games, this marina is now home to a variety of Barcelona’s best casinos, bars and nightclubs.

After you’ve had your fill of sand and surf, wander around the Barceloneta area. Gaze up at sharks and colourful fish as you walk through the shark tunnel at l’Arquarium de Barcelona.

Barceloneta Beach is situated within 20-minutes of Barcelona’s well-known pedestrian shopping street, La Rambla. Get to the beach using taking the metro or a bus, which have convenient stops nearby. For cyclists, there is a special area to lock bikes up right by the beach.
