Summary:
Welcome to “Serenity by the Sea” in Carmel, California.
There’s only one Carmel-by-the-Sea, and its magic is undeniable. Vogue called it the “West Coast destination of the moment” in 2023, and Travel & Leisure rated it the “#3 Best City for Romance in the World.”
Nowhere will you find this legacy of beauty and excellence more fully embodied than at “Serenity by the Sea."
The Space:
This two-story dwelling exudes charm from the moment you drive up and see a long dark-brown railing fronting a balcony that runs the entire length of the second floor. The home’s façade is a sandy beige with mossy green accents. You’ll enter “Serenity by the Sea” through a door on the ground level into an open space, where, for a split second, an exhilarating wave of color will consume your field of vision from one of the bedrooms in front of you. Then you’ll feel compelled to look upward at the ceiling towering above both stories. Light shines down upon you from a window far above.
Once upstairs, find yourself in an inviting living room with a vaulted white wood ceiling and rich hardwood floors supporting two leather easy chairs and a plush sectional sofa. Imagine the nights you’ll spend here with your friends and family, curled up on the couch as the fire flickers in front of you and a favorite film plays on the flat screen Smart TV above the fireplace. Grab a book or a game from the built-in bookshelf behind you, or take in some fresh air on the back balcony overlooking your private garden sanctuary.
The living room flows easily into a formal dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows that grant more garden views to those gathered for a meal. The adjacent chef’s kitchen is a masterwork of rich, creamy hardwood cabinetry, sage-colored countertops, and state-of-the-art appliances, including a Wolf oven and gas range, and a Sub-Zero refrigerator. Pass through the kitchen to find an informal dining table in front of a window – the perfect spot to savor a hearty breakfast or your morning coffee. Alternatively, take your coffee out to the front balcony – the long one you saw upon your arrival at "Serenity by the Sea." It’s dotted with red geraniums, and it features a little table with a few chairs for you to sit in quiet contemplation of the splendor around you.
The primary bedroom suite is on the second floor. It offers an ensuite bathroom and private balcony access. The remaining bedrooms are downstairs on the ground level. Remember that wave of color we mentioned earlier? The particular bedroom in question opens onto a thriving fairytale garden awash in brilliant light and dizzying impressions of green and fuchsia. Secluded in this enclosed, fully private space alive with the beauty of nature, hear nothing except the soft trickling of a fountain, the chirping of birds, and ocean breezes playing in the trees overhead.
As others in your group warm themselves by the fire pit, sink down into the soothing hot waters of a spa tub surrounded by wild foliage. When you chose to visit Carmel-by-the-Sea, perhaps you thought it would offer an escape from the ordinary. And, in a sense, you were right. But what you realize now, sitting amidst the succulents at “Serenity by the Sea,” is that, here on the Monterey Peninsula, the extraordinary is – quite splendidly – ordinary.
