There’s so much to see and do at the Carnegie Science Center – visitors of all ages will be spoilt for choice, whether you enjoy space-age robots, want to learn more about how our bodies work or feel like getting behind the controls of a submarine.
The Carnegie Science Center is home to range of interactive exhibits, spread across its four storeys, which are arranged in galleries. Get high-tech in Roboworks – the world’s largest permanent robotics exhibit. Pit your wits against the machines in challenges such as basketball and air hockey, and learn about technological advances and the role robots play in our everyday lives.
You’ll need steady hands in BodyTech, where you can learn about all the tools and skills surgeons use – from endoscopes to lasers. SeaScape takes you underwater to explore coral reefs. Zoom in on the microscopic life here, or step back to watch the daily feeding sessions.
All aboard! Train fans will love the Miniature Railroad and Village – a scale-model replica of Pennsylvanian life in the 1930s, which even features a baseball game. Or head into outer space in SpacePlace where you can experience the life of an astronaut on the International Space Station.
There’s even more to explore outside. The Cold-War submarine USS Requin is moored on the riverside and forms part of the Carnegie Science Center, while the neighbouring Highmark SportsWorks shows how science is applied in sport through hands-on displays.
Kids of all ages will love the Exploration Station and its Junior version. Here they can build electrical circuits, play crazy instruments like the laser harp, and even meet Madagascar hissing cockroaches!
The Carnegie Science Center sits on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, next to Heinz Field. Public transport is available – take the free subway (T-Plus) to Allegheny Station.
