Our family thoroughly loved our stay! So close to the beach and very private location. The kids loved the pool table, swimming in the pool and of course the hot tub! This was our first experience in the 4X4 area and we absolutely loved it and cannot wait to come back again! The house was beautiful and perfect for our family:)
We had the most unique and amazing experience here. The house was wonderful, spacious, equipped for adults and children. The pool was nice for the boys to have a place to enjoy after being at the beach. The porch was a wonderful place to sit and read. Bob was super quick to respond to any issues we had. I highly recommend this home and Corolla.
This beautiful house is tucked away, yet still close to the beach, bordering a nature preserve. Well equipped with all furniture and bedding appearing brand new. Plenty of room for relaxing on spacious deck and pool. We had fun enjoying pool and pool table and kids enjoyed video games. Owner went to great lengths to be sure all items were provided were gracious and accommodating.. 5 minute drive to beach, within walking distance just a few blocks from beach. Easy check in and check out process. Would definitely recommend arriving before nightfall, as we took wrong turn on freeway and ended up arriving later than expected and had some difficulty finding house in dark. bugs do come out after dark so bring bug spray, no problem during day. Had plenty opportunities for horse sightings just outside the door. Truly majestic! A little nerve wracking driving on beach but had hang of it after a few days! A beautiful get away!
I would like to say “you wont like it” so I could hoard available dates all to myself, but I can’t lie, Bob and Wendy’s home was everything we could have hoped for and much more! The home itself was a wonder to behold, as you could see the effort and labors of love built into the exterior and interior of the house. The woodwork detail is amazing. The house is very open; the photos really don’t do it’s spacious rooms justice. All furnishings were very well kept and quiet pleasant. We arrived to a super easy check-in and a very clean home. All bed linens/pillows were provided, but remember to bring your own bath/dish towels.
The house is nestled away towards the sound on the 4WD beach and is wooded all around so you have the ultimate in privacy. This secluded aspect is the perfect setting to enjoy nature, including DAILY wild horse visits. We were able to watch two different colts nurse as their mothers grazed most days, it was truly surreal. Evenings spent in the hot tub almost always resulted in an evening viewing of 1-7 horses grazing beside the deck. There were many little green tree frogs and dragon flies all around. With all the wooded beauty, you want to remember your bug spray. We fared well most evenings but did need repellant a few nights.
You can choose to walk (about 3 blocks or less) or drive to the beach, parking passes (with helpful info printed on them) are provided for use while there. Beach chairs are provided for use along with a water hose close to the front porch to clean your feet off upon return. Bob was extremely helpful in keeping us abreast of the current tide conditions so we could plan accordingly. He provided us invaluable advice, including letting the air down to 20psi on your 4WD tires (trust me, you really should) and informing us of an incoming storm that brought higher than normal tides. The storm produced a shell-hunters delight the following three days, along with a view of several live conchs, clams, and a huge (but dead) Atlantic sturgeon. Just amazing!
I really can’t thank Bob and Wendy enough for sharing their wonderful home, this has certainly been one of the best vacations I’ve experienced. My normal idea of vacation has been forever changed and I look forward to finding the next available dates so I can return to this magical locale soon. Please please please?
Property is as advertised and very comfortable. The horses are out and around the property constantly which the kids (and adults) loved. The house is larger that the pictures showed and plenty of space for our 6 adults and 4 kids. The pool was down when we were there but we didn't miss it much.
Was a great experience as usual staying on the 4x4 beach. This home is toward the back and very private. Nice to utilize the pool and hot tub when not on the beach. The home was very spacious with more than enough room to spread out! Great property, communication, and experience!
Fantastic Property , secluded and well equipped . We saw the wild horses everyday . Pool and Hot tub a nice addition after a day at the beach . Must have 4 wheel drive and follow owners instructions on deflating tires and how to get to the property . Highly recommended for a great vacation !
The property is beautiful, back in a nook by the Currituck Sound but an easy walk to the beach. The beaches are soft, isolated, and safe. The sand bank goes into the surf easily for 100 yards, and the waves are gentle. If you want to get away, this is the place. The house is huge. It has many amenities. There are wild horses and wild pigs that make daily visits. The biggest draw back is the number of bugs. Can't have nature without the bugs. The best are a multitude of Dragonflies in a Kaleidoscope of colors, the worst are the blood sucking horseflies. At night it's game over for the humans. Lastly the listing doesn't list the number of bathrooms on the property. There are at least 4 including a beautiful master suite bathroom sunken bath. Bob and Wendy are receptive and return communications quickly. The house needs a little TLC. In the end the property was worth the bugs and easy to overlook the small negatives. For us it was the serenity we needed during COVID. Secluded, safe, beachy, with great wi-fi if you need to get work done!
A fantastic place to relax and get away from it all. Where else can you have wild horses wander into your yard while you're relaxing in the pool?
Also, you feel truly alone. You can't hear or see your neighbors, and it's only a walk or a short ride to the beach. The interior is perfectly apportioned for one or two families to just enjoy hanging out, watching a movie, playing games, and eating great meals. Plus, Bob is a very attentive and friendly host. Highly recommended.
What an amazing property!! We were blown away by how much room the house has, how secluded you feel while at the property, and the easy access to the beach. We wanted a secluded getaway during covid and this was perfect. We drove our truck the 5 minute, straight shot to the beach everyday.
The pool and hot tub were a great addition and something we all enjoyed, especially the kids! The bugs outside can be intense at times- make sure to bring off/bug spray. (You are secluded in a wooded area, so it was expected :). )
4 wheel drive is a must!! We loved driving the sand roads and literally saw wild horses every single day!!
All in all this was an amazing place to stay and we are telling all of our friends and family about this awesome home. 💙
We had a amazing time here! Short walk or drive to the beach. The wild horses came in the yard everyday! The house was very clean and beds were comfortable. The hot tub and pool was a plus after the beach! We will be back next year!
The home was everything it was billed to be. We enjoyed the many rooms, large kitchen, living room, pool table, pool and hot tub. It was a unique and memorable location, and we enjoyed some visitors one night to the house of the equine variety.
One downside due to the pandemic was the absence of paper products or towels in the house, which for us traveling by air, was a bit of a hardship. We were given some forewarning on the paper products, but not the towels. Thankfully, our friends staying down the beach loaned us some of theirs.
All in all, I would recommend the home despite the minor inconvenience that I'm sure will resolve itself after things return to normal.
We spent our honeymoon here, and it was just like a dream come true. The ponies were in the yard most of our first day here, we took amazing pictures from the porch, and they've been visible each day of our stay in the neighborhood. The hot tub and the beach are fantastic, surrounded by these beautiful twisting trees! Bob was very friendly and helpful, and we definitely want to visit again.
To stay here you must have a 4x4 vehicle, no way around that. If you bring more then one vehicle, the owner can help you park the none 4x4 vehicle. (hopefully not through 3rd party but like we did for free). Try and get there before dark because you will be driving on the beach through the sand to reach the house. Use your GPS from phone to know when to turn. Don't forget to reduce air in tires to drive through the sand. Don't forget to add air back in when leaving. We had a blast staying here. The house is beautiful with tons of charm and built with lots of love and character. Impressed by the details that went in. The hot tube was great laying in it at night and watching the stars. The boys loved the pool and did lots of swimming. Lots of room and bedrooms are large and comfortable. My bed was firm and I loved it. No one had any negatives to say. The home has plenty of trees and creates a sense of privacy that just feels wonderful. It was just what I was looking for instead of being jammed up and crowed on top of other people. The beach is like 4 blocks away, every walkable, but why walk when you can drive your jeep or truck right up to the beach and enjoy! Ocean beach was clear, clean and wonderful. Plenty of space. Saw some folks fishing from their trucks but I did not fish, I put my chair and toes in the water and spaced out. Kids played in the sand and swam. The town is not far, but remember you can not go fast in the sand, I did 20 mph. It was fun driving in the sand. We loved our stay, hope we can return someday, and thank our host. PS: I saw horses on the beach and the sand roads. pretty cool.
This property is even better than the pictures. We loved staying on the 4x4 beach and seeing the horses everyday. The pool and hot tub were an added bonus after the beach . I would highly recommend this property to anyone !
This home is more than the pictures show! We had 9 guests and were more than comfortable! We were able to see the horses everyday of our trip! We would definitely stay again!!!

Great spot away from the hubbub. From the upstairs windows you can hear the calming sounds of the ocean. We had a wonderful time.
