Whether you want to go for a swim, rest in the shade, or spot the local dolphins inhabiting the waters, the wide sandy shore of Playa Delfines is the place to be.
Situated beside the deep blue waters off Cancun, this is a peaceful and tranquil location away from the busy hotels, offering a refreshingly relaxed and laidback experience which makes it a popular spot for visitors just as much as for locals.
Bring a towel and claim your spot in the shade under one of the free umbrellas available to use. The medium-sized waves here are popular with surfers – hire a board from downtown Cancun and join the crowds who come here.
The beach is patrolled by lifeguards and even has a trained medical officer on site. The waves here are pretty gentle too, making a safe spot for children to splash about and play.
As the name suggests, Playa Delfines, meaning Dolphin Beach, is a great spot for watching these beautiful creatures swimming off the shore. If you’d like a closer look at these magnificent mammals, it’s possible to book a place on a chartered tour.
This is a quiet location, so don’t expect to find large restaurants in the area. Instead, there are plenty of street vendors selling traditional Mexican cuisine such as fresh fish wrapped in a banana leaf, or delicious deep fried Kibis, popular with the locals.
Situated 17 kilometres away from the heart of Cancun, it’s best to reach Playa Delfines by bus or taxi. Free parking is on offer if you’re driving. Open all hours of the day and free to enter, the beach is patrolled only during the daytime.
