Disney California Adventure® became neighbour to the original Disneyland® in 2001. The concept of this park is to celebrate California’s history and culture in a way that's playful and accessible to all and to present some of Disney’s more recent creations. Certainly, if you've got children in your party, this is likely to be one of their favourite experiences of the holiday. The good news for parents is that Disney California Adventure® is often educational too. Spend at least a day working your way through the rides and activities of this 27-hectare wonderland.
Disney California Adventure® has eight themed districts waiting to be explored. Enter the main entrance onto Buena Vista Street, an impressive facsimile of 1920s California, replete with Art Deco façades and red trolley buses. Visit the mock-up of the Carthay Circle Theater, in which Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs had its premiere.
Stroll along Paradise Pier, based on such gems as the Santa Monica Pier and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Brave the California Screamin’ roller coaster, then grab lunch at the Paradise Garden Grille.
Venture up Grizzly Peak, an ode to the national parks of California, complete with white-water and zip-line and perfect for thrill seekers. Stop by at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, and meet characters from Disney-Pixar's Up.
At Condor Flats, try out the simulated hang glider tour, Soarin' Over California. The Pacific Wharf district provides an ideal spot to stop for refreshment try the Mendocino Wine Bar or the margarita stand.
Hollywood Land transports you back to the golden age of movie making and you can also meet some of Disney’s latest superstars Hollywood Studios take you onto an old movie back lot. Catch a live show at the 2000-seat Hyperion Theater, then head on to watch Muppet Vision 3-D.
Finish up at A Bug's Land and Cars Land, which celebrate two of Disney-Pixar's most successful films. The latter is home to Radiator Springs Racers the most expensive theme park ride to date.
Disney California Adventure Park® is 56 kilometres south of Los Angeles. There is a car park (charged). Various public transport stops by the park regularly.
