Stroll down to Dongtan Beach, between Pattaya South and Jomtien Beach, and enjoy the calm, tranquil atmosphere on offer at this kilometre-long stretch of sand. Find a spot on this wide beach either in the sunshine or beneath the shade of the many trees, and you can make the most of the peace and quiet.
When you arrive on the beach, find a spot, then hire a chair or a sun lounger from one of the stalls. If you want to laze closer to the ocean, bear in mind you will have to pay a little more. Swimming here is safe, with a wide area that is demarcated by bright buoys in the water, making this a pleasant spot tp cool off.
If you want to try the water sports on offer here, you’ll be spoilt for choice. You can go parasailing and see the beach from high above, or try your hand at windsurfing and feel the breeze across your back. Keen anglers can find barracuda, grouper and trevally among the species of fish swimming around these waters – when you’ve made a catch, take it to one of the restaurants by the beach where they’ll quickly clean it and prepare it for you.
For a less active dining experience, head for the restaurants and bars in the area and simply admire the view. With volleyball games going on, a range of tourists lingering around, and locals wandering by, you’ll see all the sights.
When you want to relax, there is surely no better way to unwind than to go for a Thai message. The masseurs operating here are all men, but they’ll offer their services to all.
The beach enjoys a good reputation among same-sex male couples, but you’ll find all kinds of people, of both sexes and all ages, enjoying the sands and the waters here – and you’ll see why. Drivers should be aware that the road behind the beach is pedestrian-only, but you can park nearby on Jomtien Beach Road.
