Secluded Seaside Village Retreat in Fishing Town

Come relax in the charming fishing town of Willis Wharf, where beautiful views and the kindest people on the eastern shore of Virginia live.

Centrally located to everything the ESVA has to offer- it mere minutes from several beaches, Kiptopeke State Park, Savage Neck Dunes & Nature Preserve, Barrier Island Center in Machipongo, Chincoteague Island and the famous car-less Tangier Island, which you'll need to take a short boat ride to visit.

Don't forget about the freshest seafood you'll eat! Willis Wharf is home to several clam & oyster operations. There's no shortage of great places to eat- Liv's and Exmore Diner are a mile up the main road in Exmore, The Great Machipongo Clam Shack & Island House in Wachapreague are about 20 minutes away- up the road and down the road.

Back down toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is the booming town of Cape Charles- which boasts beautiful beaches, boutiques, restaurants, bars, Arnold Palmer Golf course, and some of the most grand old homes on the shore.
Bring your boat to Duers Landing- we have a carport and plenty of parking for boat, trailer and trucks! There's a public boat ramp in Willis Wharf, one minute away, and many other public boat ramps on the sea and Chesapeake Bay sides- take your pick! Harborton, Melfa, Onancock are all close and give you opportunities to explore different areas of the Chesapeake Bay by boat.

Great place to stay.
There were 5 adults in this home; myself (75), my brother (80), 2 nieces and my nephew who just got out of the army after 15 years . One of my nieces is a nurse. I say all this because I had a stroke a couple of months ago and my family was going to take care of me. I didn't need their help, but the thought was very nice. My brother and I were born in Nassawadox. but the rest of my family has only been there onc . They had a great time. Machipongo Crab Shack was where we ate almost every night. I gained 10 pounds in 10 days. You have to try the Smith Island cake. There are many flavors, but they only have one cake flavor at a time. Now it's time to talk about the house. It was much bigger than I expected. We stayed in the den most of the time. That's where the TV is located. We felt comfortable in there and there was enough room for all of us. The living room is larger. The couch is very comfortable. I spent a lot of time on it.I Stairs are hard for me right now. Everyone said that the beds were very comfortable. I slept in the twin bed in the office. I had no problem sleeping in the office. We went to Chincoteague and Assatigue. The ponies were close enough to see very well. We stopped at Pony Tails and loaded up on all flavors of Taffy. Ocean City alo hasmm Thrasher's fries. If you go there you gotta try them. Back to the house. The kitchen has anything you could possibly need. Only one bathroom and 5 adults was no problem. Wanted to write more, but not enough space.

This is a great old home filled with character. Perfect for our time away exploring the ESVA area. The home is much larger than expected but very comfortable. We would not hesitate to come back if the opportunity arises.

House was spacious with lots of supplies if you forgot anything. It makes the beach drivable but it's not minutes from the beach as the advert said. It was 30 minutes to the bay beach. We were very comfortable there.

Family meet up & getaway!
I live in Cincinnati and my son and his wife and 4 kiddos live in Brooklyn. I was looking for a place to meet up before they traveled to Manila for the summer and stumbled upon this listing in Willis Wharf. They agreed to meet me. So I booked it! I had never been to this part of Virginia and as I was driving into Willis Wharf I saw street names like Pecan and Seaside and knew I had made a good decision. Communication with Mears was clear and timely. The entry instructions were easy. We explored the space which was very clean and as described. The house is larger than I imagined! My grandson discovered that there is a back staircase off the kitchen. Although the kitchen is well equipped for cooking, we decided to go out to eat and enjoyed a meal and live music at The Clam Shack - family friendly with fresh seafood as well as kid friendly options. Afterwards we hit The Food Lion for essentials (ice cream!) and after we got the kiddos all tucked in, we sat at the kitchen table and talked. It was lovely. The next day was spent heading north about an hour to the barrier islands of Chincoteague and Assateague. This is the home of the wild ponies!!! If you're about my age you'll recall reading, Misty of Chincoteague. My 8 year old self felt ecstatic and my grandmother's heart was beaming to be able to share the experience of seeing these ponies via boat with my 4 grandchildren. I highly recommend staying at Mears place in Willis Wharf.

Perfect Home Base for Exploring ESVA
The house was perfect for our family of 5 (myself, my husband, 5 & 6 yr old boys, and a 1 yr old daughter)! It is actually much bigger than the photos portray! We were easily able to get groceries delivered and make our meals at the house, which was important to us. There is so much to do and explore - we did Cape Charles, Chincoteague, Saxis, and Savage Neck Dunes! Mears was very responsive via text and provided helpful suggestions on finding “hidden gem” beaches, etc! He was very friendly and happy to answer any questions that we had. We only had one small issue, which was that there was no tub. The listing stated a shower/tub combo, but it was just a stall shower. This was an adjustment for our boys and we had to bathe our baby in the kitchen sink - not a big deal for us, but just a note for anyone who needs a tub! We would love to come back next year! Thanks, Mears!

Excellent getaway for relaxation & seafood
My dachshund Luke and I stayed 4 nights at this lovely older home near the water in the quaint village of Willis Wharf. The home is comfortable, the neighborhood is friendly and safe. The owner is not on site or nearby, but was very responsive to VRBO messaging. I tried my hand at crabbing-without much success, but was able to eat fresh seafood dinners and find local seafood to bring back home. I took a trip to Tangier Island while there, and visited Chatham Vinyard for a wine tasting. I recommend Liv’s Cafe and Deli (very close) for the delicious crab bisque, and the Machipongo Clam Shack (just down the road) for all things seafood. The house is old fashioned, but perfectly comfortable and very well equipped for cooking, relaxing, sleeping and enjoying time away from the hustle and bustle. There was a minor plumbing problem during my stay, and Mears worked very promptly to have a plumber come to fix the problem. I would happily return to this home for another relaxing getaway.
