Edinburgh Flights

Something of a mixed bag, Edinburgh is a location that seamlessly blends medieval surroundings like Royal Mile with more modern spots like Leith. Historically rich and culturally fascinating, this destination has a little something for everyone. From the unique shops on Stockbridge and Canonmills to the beaches of Portobello; the enlightening entertainment of the Edinburgh Mela festival to the excitement of the Hogmanay celebrations, there is never any shortage of fun in this city. As this destination can be very busy, cheap flights to Edinburgh can be tricky to find if you do not plan ahead.

Best time to travel to Edinburgh

Peak Season:

Tourists crowd the streets of Edinburgh from June through August. Although this period can be rainy, visitors still gather to take part in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Fringe, and Art festivals. Additionally, this is an excellent time to socialise with the locals at the Canny Man’s pub, see a show at Queen's Hall, or go to the races at Musselburgh Racecourse.

Shoulder Season:

Although flights to Edinburgh can still be a bit expensive, the prices drop a bit from November through March. The climate during this period can be foggy and damp, making it a great time to go if the majority of your itinerary consists of indoor activities, like touring the Mary King's Close, viewing and exhibit at the Stills Gallery, or visiting the Georgian House.

Off Season:

Though occasionally rainy, the months of April to May and September to October are usually mild and pleasant. Because of this, these months are great for taking part in some outdoor activities, like wandering through the Salisbury Crags, seeing the Penguin Parade at the Edinburgh Zoo, or taking in the bright colours and delicious scents of the Royal Botanic Garden.

Edinburgh Airport and transfer information

Edinburgh International Airport (EDI) Distance: 10km west of the city Buses are the best option for ground transport, as they are inexpensive, convenient, and quick. The Airlink Express takes around 25 minutes to arrive in town, and offers plenty of room for baggage, and free wi-fi. Lothian buses are cheaper, but offer fewer perks. City, airport, and pre-booked taxi services are available, but are significantly more expensive. For a similar rate, you can also rent a car.
