"A lovely stay at the Royal Oak for one night. Very friendly and attentive staff. They were more than happy to arrange late access to the property due to us having to return to the room late at night. Breakfast was excellent, with options for full English or kippers, plus plenty of toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt. The car park is very small, and can't accommodate all vehicles, however there is ample parking on the road at the front of the property. The room was comfortable with clean linens....

"We really enjoyed our stay here, the property was well equipped with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. I do think the property does need updating a little and it would have been nice if the hot tub had been filled on arrival, the hot tub also needs a cover as unless you like cold feb rain wouldn’t have been enjoyable. "A country home feel with hotel style rooms make this a peaceful stay. Off the beaten track but within a short drive to some alternative restaurants make this a decent overnight option. We selected this so we could visit York and yet be ‘in the country’. Room was basic but comfy. One note. Many doors around give access to the car park - but they are only marked emergency exit and you have to walk in / out of the main doors. Inconvenient with luggage. "

"We came to celebrate our Diamond Wedding Anniversary here having stayed in 1965 as newlyweds. The hotel has been completely updated and our room( no.3) was luxurious. The comfortable bed was more than 6' wide and the bathroom huge with walk-in shower plus roll top bath We took our toy poodle with us who was welcomed by all the staff. "The staff were excellent, very friendly, helpful & welcoming. The room was clean, warm & comfortable. We booked a double superior room & although the bed was very big the room was really quite small & ready for some refurbishment. The bathroom, again whilst clean, warm & functional, was very small and looked to have been designed & installed by a poor ‘DIY’er. The breakfast was very nice with the staff service again being first class."
