House was very comfortable. Area immediately around house was fair, but nondescript. Close to western entrance to the park. Need to go to Granby, 20 -30 minutes away for supermarket.

Spacious, comfortable, clean
Lovely home, very spacious and clean. Comfortable furniture. I would definitely stay here again. No A/C which was a little adjustment for us during afternoons and at night, but most windows can be easily opened and fans made it comfortable. We enjoyed the upstairs loft where we could watch movies as a family. Also liked the spacious areas to sit and drink morning coffee. Location is fantastic, only a few minutes drive to access the RMNP and Grand Lake.

Memorial Day Getaway
This place is perfect! It’s tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, and still close enough to do lots of activities. A few days of fishing on Lake Granby and nearby Wolford Mt reservoir. There are also a lot of hiking trails in the area. And close enough to Grand Lake and Granby for dining. The house is spacious and the kitchen has everything we needed. Games and puzzles as well as a nice family room with a big TV. The beds are very comfortable. The wildlife was even a bit active as we saw some moose, deer, and a fox cone through the yard almost nightly. We’ll definitely be back.

2nd stay here!
Our stay was just as amazing as last year when we first stayed here. We were disappointed that we could not use the fire place this time, but understand due to the forest fire risk. We love the little shops in Gand Lake downtown area. And the town of Winter Park with all its restaurants, community center, indoor swimming pool, bowling, and ice skating! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us again!

Clean and quiet with a great view
My spouse and I stayed at this lovely home for several days over Labor Day weekend to do some hiking. House was clean and well-stocked. I am severely allergic to dust mites and detergents, and did not have any problems here. We enjoyed the views of the mountains from the upstairs sitting area. House does not have air conditioning but with windows and fans, we were comfortable. The main level bedrooms stayed cooler than the upstairs master. The property is in a quiet neighborhood, but also close enough to town to get supplies. Mountain Market in Grand Lake is quite small and often crowded; we had better success at City Market in Granby. Overall, great place for us to explore the west side of RMNP and the Never Summer mountains. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Owner does not allow renters to control thermostat
When we arrived we noticed the thermostats were set to 55 degrees and required a 4 digit pin code to operate them, which we didn't have. However the owner's written instruction sheet stated, "Thermostats have all been pre-set to run and heat the home efficiently." It instructs winter renters to open the blinds to let the sun heat the house and to wear a jacket or sweater. It instructs summer renters to close the blinds to keep the sun out. For the first few sunny days the house was too warm since most of the south facing windows either do not have blinds, or the blinds are inoperable. When the sun shines, it rapidly heats up the house from those uncovered south windows. But during 2 days of cold cloudy rainy weather, the daytime inside temperature was only getting up to 61 degrees. We noticed the "pre-set thermostats" remained at 55 degrees. We asked the owner, via Mountain Vacation Lodging (MVL), if we could have the 4 digit pin so we could adjust the thermostat. Later that day MVL responded to say the owner apologized for not knowing the house was cold, and that she would turn up the heat. We asked if we could set the thermostat ourselves since we generally prefer cooler temperatures than most folks. After a couple of back and forth messages, MVL said the owner was unwilling to give us the pin, instead insisting on setting the system herself to run automatically at various temperatures that she thought were appropriate for different times of the day. However her idea of a comfortable temperature was much higher than ours. At 6:00 the next morning the thermostat jumped up to 70 degrees. That significantly raised the baseline temperature from which the sun heated the house even more throughout the day through the blindless windows. Unable to turn down the thermostat, we opened all the windows in an attempt to bring in a little cool air. So the heating system was working to heat up the house while we opened windows and used electric fans to cool it off. We were very uncomfortable and very frustrated to not have control of the thermostat, especially since we do not share the owner's temperature preferences. We share this review to help other potential renters, since we would have appreciated that information when we were deciding where to stay.

Best vacation rental we've ever had
Thompson Lodge was far and away the best vacation rental we've ever had in15 years. The floorplan was fabulous (it would be a great house for a large group to stay). There were plenty of kitchen countertops to prepare meals. The house was clean and fully stocked with extra towels, pillows and blankets. The ceiling fans, along with opening the windows, kept the house plenty cool, even with above the average temperatures Colorado was experiencing. The house was fairly private and a short drive to Grand Lake and RMNP.

Wonderful, clean and such a relaxing getaway
We loved our time here. We spent a week with my parents, my aunt and uncle and my husband and me. We truly felt so relaxed and comfortable. Our host left instructions which were clear and we could tell that it was important to them that we enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much for a summer vacation that we will always remember as a wonderful time to spend time with family.

Incredible!
This place was PERFECT. The home had every convenience we could think of. This was our first ever time visiting Colorado. Our wonderful family dog passed away after 12 years with us, and we were desperate to get out of our house away from our own broken hearts with the kids who missed their furry friend terribly. We always wanted to visit Colorado and this was just the trip we needed to regroup our shattered souls. We had no idea where to go or what there was to do. For people with zero experience with the state, much less the Grand Lake area, this property was an absolutely ideal location and we can't believe how lucky we were to find such a perfect spot on accident and on a whim. The house has an incredible rural feel; that very isolated feeling you WANT to feel on a Colorado get away. And yet you're really only 10-15 minutes away from a really great small town with all the modern convenience of home; hot coffee, a grocery store with a surprising selection, restaurants, boutiques, and gift shops. Not only that but the house is located on the very cusp of Rocky Mountain National Park. Maybe 5 minutes away from the town, 15-20 minutes away from the house. You can travel across the entire park in an hour and a half and pop out in Estes. Which, from what I understand is a huge tourist destination and a very popular spot. It was neat, but I wouldn't trade Estes for Grand Lake EVER. Grand lake and this house felt like you walked into a picture book fantasy land. There were elk everywhere! We saw a moose cross the yard! A bear visited the town to poke around! There is so much to do just outside your door, and I cannot stress enough how perfectly located this home is. It is simultaneously in the middle of it all, AND tucked away privately. You get the best of both at this property. The home itself is beautiful. Everything was in working order and if you thought "it would be nice to have..." Before you could finish the thought, there it was. It had all appliances and a bunch of nonperishables, cooking oils, seasonings, dressings... Things you spend money on at rentals like this and end up throwing away 3/4 used and hating yourself for being wasteful. Not here! There were enough towels for everyone, and the house was spotless. A giant window offered stunning views of the mountains. The seating and beds were incredibly comfortable. There were all the appliances you could find in your own home. We loved it here. We will absolutely be back again

Comfortable and calm
I work nonstop and this is the one time a year I get a break from the busyness of it all. Our usual cabin was not taking bookings so we stayed here. So glad we did. There are plenty of sitting areas to sit and read or play games as a family. Nice area outside to play in the snow and practice our Texas style sledding. It truly was the best trip to Colorado we’ve had and we go every year. Thanks Thompson lodge!

Amazing place to stay
The cabin is amazing. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could need including spices and condiments. The beds are comfy and the bedding is cozy. Plenty of blankets and pillows. I went with my 6 kids, 14,13,10,4,1,and 3 months. It was great for everyone. Upstairs is bigger than it looks in the pictures, the master bathroom upstairs is a dream. 2 shower heads in the stand alone shower, a huge whirlpool tub with jets, The owner has games in the closet under the stairs, connect 4 was a big hit for my kids, books by the tv, plenty of towles that are clean and bright and soft. Shampoo and soap in both bathrooms. And the heating took a bit getting used to, but once it kicked in with the radiant heating, its no joke. We stayed toasty even when it was in the teens at night. Thwir is a wood burning fire place that heats up the whole house really well for first thing in the morning. They provided the fire starter, but you need to get wood as the wood on the side of the hiuse is the neighbors. Their are a few stores close by, safe ways, mcdonalds, shopping, things like that. The little town about 8 mins away of Grand lake is so sweet! 2 little markets, lots of shops, ice cream places, and in the summer looks to be a fun place to swim! Down in Fraser, about 30 mins away, we found they had a rec center! Indoor rock climbing, an indoor pool with lazy river and slide, indoor trampoline park and gymnastics center, ping pong tables, and classes available for like 10 or 12 bucks a kid if you wanted them to have a lesson in gymnastics or swimming. Next door to the rec center is a little movie theater. Has like 4 screens. And down the road a bit, like a mile or 2, there is skiing, tubing, an out door ice rink. The town also has another ice skating rink called thw Ice Box. Huge skating rink out side, but covered. The bleachers had heaters so even when it was below freezing me and my 3 month old were warm sitting and watching them skate! The house is great! If i had to suggest an improvement or a diffrent perspective, i would say a baby gate for the top and bottom of the stairs. I know not everyone has small kids so its not a need for most people, but somthing i would have used for sure! Another thing that would have been icing on the cake, if there was a book with all the info in it about what to do in town and what was close. I mean.... we all have google right? So its not necessary, just added convenience to an already amazing house!
