Learn about Liechtenstein’s long winemaking heritage while walking through the vineyards and enjoying tasting sessions at this town center winery.

Satisfy your tastes buds by drinking fine wines and feasting on elegant food at Hofkellerei Liechtenstein (Wine Cellars of the Prince of Liechtenstein – Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein). Delve into centuries of viticulture history on a guided tour of this winery’s cellars and vineyards. Hofkellerei Liechtenstein stands in the heart of Vaduz, surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.

Learn more about the area’s winemaking history. Wine production by the Princely House of Liechtenstein was already flourishing in the 1400s. At this time it was concentrated in the Austrian region of Wilfersdorf. Prince Hans Adam von Liechtenstein acquired the county of Vaduz in 1712. In doing so, he also gained control of the Herawingert vineyards. The mild temperatures and exposure to warm, downslope winds of this Rhine Valley region present optimum winemaking conditions.

A guided tour of the winery will take you through the vineyards and teach you about the different varieties of grape grown here. Relax for a moment to appreciate the picture-perfect setting, with the peaks of Alpspitz and Helwangspitz in the background. Spot Vaduz Castle, which dates back to the 12th century and is the official residence of the prince of Liechtenstein.

Try a selection of red and white wines such as chardonnay, pinot noir and riesling. The on-site sommelier can provide information on the tasting notes of each. Indulge in an exquisite dinner at the winery’s partner restaurant. It is set in a medieval building once used for vinification and is home to one of Europe’s largest grape presses.

Walk to the winery in about 15 minutes from Vaduz’s main square. Public buses travel frequently to the town from Buchs and Sargans in Switzerland and Feldkirch, Austria.

Hofkellerei Liechtenstein (Wine Cellars of the Prince of Liechtenstein – Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein) is open from Monday to Saturday. Tours are available by prior appointment only. Tastings are possible without a tour and incur a fee. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday. Visit the winery’s official website for more information.
