If one wants a place like few others, then The Merry Widow is for you.
When I arrived at Reception, I thought I had got the wrong place, but I met Ulrich Onaggi the owner who is charming and he directed me to the right place to park, and then we walked across the lawn to the room, which was huge, and could have been a former barn. It has rough stone walls and a very high ceiling. Equipped quirkily, but exceedingly cold. One needs an electric blanket and a heater in the room in order to sleep. Of course in the summer, I am told, it is cool and inviting. But this was not summer. Ulrich brought me breakfast and a small supper and it was very good indeed. The second morning I went up for breakfast at the coffee bar and it was indeed a delicious surprise. As was the market, held next door, selling all kinds of wonderful organic produce and home produced gifts. All in all, a memorable stay, but next time, as I have given my word to go again, I hope Ulrich will have achieved much more with his renovations.
