This hairpin bend in the Colorado River is celebrated for its exceptional views and its proximity to some of the region’s beautiful slot canyons.

Horseshoe Bend is a famous U-shaped meandering of the Colorado River. Take a short hike to the observation area or view Horseshoe Bend from above on an air tour. The bend is near the small Arizona town of Page, an excellent place to stay when exploring the region’s renowned national parks and monuments.

Don’t forget to bring a camera, as Horseshoe Bend features awe-inspiring views. From the overlook area, see the Colorado River circle back upon itself. With desert dunes, native vegetation, jagged canyons and immaculate blue-green river water, the site is one of the region’s highlights.

One of the best ways to see Horseshoe Bend is via a small aircraft. Book an air tour for unrivaled views of the Colorado River bend and other areas, including the Glen Canyon Dam and its massive steel arch bridge. Many air tour companies operate from Page Airport, about 6 miles (10 kilometers) from the bend.

Take a short drive from Horseshoe Bend to Antelope Canyon. The site features two separate slot canyon sections, Upper Antelope Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon. Access the area easily and enjoy its serene atmosphere. Study the naturally sculpted walls as you walk through one of the site’s two magnificent sections.

Stay in the small town of Page when visiting Horseshoe Bend. Page contains a wide range of hotels, motels, suites and inns. The town is near Grand Canyon National Park and other great areas in the American Southwest. Lake Powell, a large reservoir on the Colorado River, is another popular attraction. The lake is a short drive from Page and Horseshoe Bend.

Carry water when hiking to Horseshoe Bend’s overlook area, as the region is known for its hot and dry weather. At about 1.5 miles long (2.4 kilometers), the walk from Horseshoe Bend’s parking lot to the overlook area is suitable for most fitness levels however, the return walk is mostly uphill. Be sure to wear decent hiking footwear.
