"I took my brother to Japan, and I wanted him to experience a traditional "ryokan", and even though the IROHA Hotel has "hotel" in the name, it is very much a ryokan with tatami floors in the rooms, shoji and fusuma doors, and you sleep on futons. There is a communal bath in the hotel in addition to the "unit baths" (with commode, sink, and shower/bath) in the rooms. They serve a traditional Japanese breakfast with rice, miso soup, pickles, grilled fish, simmered soybeans and hijiki (seaweed),...

"Charming ryokan. Onsen on top floor has separate bathing for men and women, lovely way to begin and end the day. The rooms come with half board, so a very special dinner and breakfast filled with Japanese delicacies. Location is convenient, it’s about a 15 minute walk from the tobu Nikko station but you can take the number 1 bus that leaves you a block or so away. Quite convenient to the attractions. Lovely mountainous view with brook from the window."

"Thank you Nikko Hoshinoyado- we had a wonderful Japanese experience in Nikko and at the hotel. We are sorry we don’t speak Japanese, and that made little things challenging a bit. We wish we knew that for a best experience we should have booked dinner at the hotel because we did not find a single suitable place to eat within walking distance of the hotel (October 18, 2024). So we did not have dinner that night. Breakfast, on the other hand was fantastic. We also loved the Onsen experience....
