The development of the area started with a steam sawmill fed by the river. It was mostly a region covered in swamps but that didn’t stop the town’s first inhabitants from settling around the sawmill. The name Lillestrøm means “the little part of the stream,” in the language of medieval Norway called Old Norse. Explore the region that developed into a lovely town with great transportation links. One train connects central Lillestrøm directly to Oslo and a high-speed train travels to Oslo’s international airport, Gardermoen.
Høyt & Lavt is Lillestrøm’s famous activity and climbing park. The huge complex has different routes varying in difficulty and passing through the many trees of the area. Challenge yourself and go climbing using the more than 220 devices that form the routes, including high zip lines. Enjoy the views from the tops of the trees and then relax in the park’s lovely café.
