Learn about the people who helped Karl Benz to design and develop the Benz Patent Motor Car in 1886, the world’s first modern car. See displays of old, new, custom-built and famous cars, including one used in the Jurassic Park movie. You can even sit in selected cars and have your picture taken. The museum’s gift shop is a must for Mercedes-Benz fanatics. Find branded memorabilia and gifts, such as baseball caps, t-shirts, pins and key rings.
Take a guided tour of the impeccably clean factory, where knowledgeable guides will explain the various processes involved in car manufacturing. Visit the body shop and assembly line to watch as assembly workers, mechanics and robots painstakingly weld and piece together parts of the cars. The Mercedes Benz Plant is a 20-minute drive east from downtown Tuscaloosa. Free onsite parking is available at the visitor center. There is no public transport between the plant and Tuscaloosa.
