Delve into the history of the Mercedes-Benz automobile brand via interactive and multimedia exhibits then take a tour of the production plant.

The stellar history of one of the world’s most respected automobile makers springs to life at the Mercedes-Benz Plant. Learn about the history, people and production of the brand, admire examples of old and new cars, then visit the factory to watch the assembly of a car.

Start your visit in the Visitor Center’s museum, where multimedia displays retrace the prestigious history of Mercedes-Benz. This is the only Mercedes-Benz museum outside of Germany and a must-see for anyone with an interest in the car industry.

Learn about the people who helped Karl Benz to design and develop the Benz Patent Motor Car in 1886, the world’s first modern car. See displays of old, new, custom-built and famous cars, including one used in the Jurassic Park movie. You can even sit in selected cars and have your picture taken. Watch videos about some of the finest racing victories achieved by Mercedes-Benz cars.

The museum’s gift shop is a must for Mercedes-Benz fanatics. Find branded memorabilia and gifts, such as baseball caps, t-shirts, pins and key rings.

Take a guided tour of the impeccably clean factory, where knowledgeable guides will explain the various processes involved in car manufacturing. Visit the body shop and assembly line to watch as assembly workers, mechanics and robots painstakingly weld and piece together parts of the cars. On the tour you’ll witness why Mercedes-Benz is deemed among the world’s safest and most innovative automobiles.

The Mercedes Benz Plant is a 20-minute drive east from downtown Tuscaloosa. Free onsite parking is available at the visitor center. There is no public transport between the plant and Tuscaloosa.

The museum is open from Monday to Friday, except for selected public holidays. Admission to the museum is free. Factory tours take place on Tuesday and Thursday. Advanced bookings are recommended for tours. Find the full opening hours, tour price and schedule on the plant’s official website.
