"This was a very special stay for us. Anyone going to Japan should spend some time at a Ryokan. This one in particular was spectacular. You’re greeted with a breath-taking view of the garden when walking in, the staff were all very friendly and spoke great English. The western and Japanese breakfasts were both delicious. "We had an amazing time during our stay. The service was impeccable and personalized. We had a kaiseki dinner and breakfast, both of which were a great way of learning more about Japanese culture. I definitely recommend spending a little more to get the dinner. They also provided us a celebratory dish since this was our honeymoon trip! "the location was in a really quiet beautiful area near beautiful temples, it’s a nice walk, and the staff were nice and accommodating. loved that dinner and breakfast was also included, although some rooms had communal washrooms which is not good. to go the hotel is also a hike up, and latest check in is before 8 pm. we had a leaking faucet, and the rooms are really cold at night, but they do provide heaters and warm clothes."

"Matsui Honkan is our first experience at Ryokan. It was a fantastic stay. The staff were supper friendly. The served breakfast and dinner were not only delicious but also looked great in the presentation. The location of the property is excellent. Nishiki Market, Kawaramachi Street, Pontocho Alley are all within minutes of walking distance. I would recommend anyone who would like to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan. "

"Koko hotel near Nijo Castle is strongly recommended. The room was roomy enough for 4 of us. The staff was friendly. You do need to keep your keycard in the slot near the front door to activate electricity. The property is located on a smaller street (on the same street as the dry cleaner). You may miss it at first. There is a coffee/breakfast spot right next to the hotel. It is quite convenient. We used Uber during our 2 nights stay at Kyoto. They were able to pick us up at the hotel....
