About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Oldtown Guesthouse

This two bedroom house is situated on a 1.3 acre lot, located right off Maryland 51. This house was built in the 1960's and its age is still evident in features like the original hardwood flood. Much of the interior has been updated and we are excited to offer the house to you as our guests.

You will have the property to yourself. Guests have access to the entire main floor. Enjoy the yard surrounding the house as well. The basement and detached garage are not available for guest use at this time.

The kitchen, with all new appliances, has been stocked with the basic things (pots, pans, utensils, etc) you need to cook a meal. If you prefer to go out for meals there are a couple small town options, a favorite being the subs from Millstone Country Store just 4 miles up the road and lots more options in the Cumberland area, about 20 minutes away.

There is a small workspace in the second bedroom for those working away from home. There is Starlink internet access to keep you connected during your stay.

If you need to do laundry, we can allow access to the washer and dryer upon special request.

We enjoy hosting guests who are biking on the towpath. The Oldtown access point is just a couple miles from our house, but there is a busy road without much of a shoulder between the access point and our house. Please feel free to message me about shuttle and food options.

So whether you're just passing through or in the area to explore local attractions, this is a great resting spot. The Paw Paw tunnel, historic downtown Cumberland, C&O canal towpath, and more are all located within 15 miles. There's hiking, biking, canoeing, and fishing options within a few miles of the house or stay at the house and enjoy a quiet getaway. There's a few books, games, and a roku tv for your use. The tv will be guest mode to allow you to login to any of your subscriptions and conveniently choose a date on which you will be logged out. There is a doorbell security camera on the porch at the back door entrance.

Oldtown guest house
My friend and I were biking the GAP-C&O trail from PIT to DC and stayed here just one night on 10/15/24. Rachel was very helpful in directions to the house. She also dropped off laundry detergent so we could do a wash. The house was very clean with nice accommodations, including freshly baked cookies! Would highly recommend. If you are biking from the trail, note that the road to the house is busy with traffic and speed limit 50 mi/hr. Also, there's only one restaurant in town, the School house restaurant which closes fairly early at night.

The BEST home
My husband and I spent our 3rd year anniversary here and in ALL HONESTY, this home was the best home we've visited for our anniversary vacation. The entire home has a feeling of peace to it..The house is clean, the bathroom is extremely spacious with 2 sinks. The bedrooms are neat, and we enjoyed simply being indoors and enjoying our stay. You need to spend time here, You wont regret it. If you need a quiet, peaceful and relaxing getaway, please come! Thank you so much for doing a great job with the place. My husband and I really enjoyed being here! P.s: there is a cookie waiting for you at your arrival.

Great place
A lovely, spacious, nicely decorated home in a rural setting. Kitchen was divine. We had no problems cooking there at all. Appreciated the A/C as it was quite hot while we were staying there. The hosts were very quick to respond to the one issue we did have.

Just the two of us!
My husband and I were looking for a place to just get away. Do minimal activities but enjoy the outdoors. We found it in Oldtown. Not really a town as some would say but we enjoyed the School House Kitchen for breakfast and went hiking at the Paw Paw tunnel. This house was perfect! In a rural location but still close to Cumberland and Lavale, which we only went to for dinners. It was hot so we decided to do a puzzle together on hot afternoons, sleep in (which is 7am for us) and the house was perfect. Very Clean, comfortable bed and a nice homemade snack was left for us too! We are already trying to decide when we can come back and stay here again!

Wonderful hosts
We were on a bicycle trip from Pittsburgh PA to Washington D.C. and needed a place to stay near Oldtown. I contacted Rachel to ask if her rental was close to the trail. She said it was but there was one busy road that she didn’t think we should bike on. She offered to pick us up at the trail and drive us the short distance to the house, and also offered to picked us up in the morning and bring us back to the trail. They had a nice vehicle with a bike rack on the back that could accommodate up to 4 bikes. The house was spotless and exactly as shown in the pictures. She had put out some chocolate chip cookies on the counter as well as some locally made sourdough bread and eggs in the fridge for breakfast. Both Rachel and her husband were so helpful, very responsive to messages, and they were waiting for us when we arrived in town on the trail. Hot showers in a very clean, spacious and modern bathroom. Towels, soap, shampoo was all there. We would be happy to stay there again if we are in the area.

Short stay but a comfy one
My wife and I were biking the C&O Canal Towpath, and needed a place fo the night. This was the perfect place. Its close to a parking area to get on the trail. Exceptionally clean and neat. Parking is easy in the driveway. The fresh cookies were a nice touch. Double sinks in the large bathroom were very nice as well. It has all the things you would need if you needed to cook and stay longer. I would return and stay again if we come that way again. Thank you!
