The Space:
#StayinMyDistrict Buckman Loft. The upper level loft sits above a separate street level 1BR/1BA apartment (please inquire if you would like to rent both units!) and offers plenty of street parking in the surrounding block. The space has been updated and reflects a modern Mid Century vibe with unique touches and appreciation for the arts.

The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with a new wood frame and mattress as of May 2024, high quality linens, and plenty of space for guests personal items, and a Smart Roku TV.

A second bedroom has a queen size bed, a Smart Roku TV. This room also has a small desk to act as a private office to make working remotely easy. With blazing fast Wi-Fi throughout the property of up to 400Mbps down and 12Mbps up, video or Teams calls are a breeze.

The full bathroom is modern, clean and updated with a walk in rain shower and modern fixtures. Bathroom amenities include quality linens, shampoo and conditioner, and hairdryer.

The main living area has a loveseat and an arm chair. A large, Roku SmartTV is provided for your viewing pleasure and electric fireplace for those cool evenings. It opens up off of the kitchen and dining area to create a very communal space – great for multi couple or family trips. The TV is on a mount that can be tilted towards the kitchen so you don’t have to miss your favorite show while cooking.

Located in a foodie neighborhood, you will enjoy walking to local dining options! The well appointed kitchen includes top of the line pans in All Clad and heavy duty non-stick and cast iron frying pans, Crate and Barrel plates and bowls, full sized GE stainless appliances, including a refrigerator with ice maker and filtered water dispenser, a dishwasher, microwave, gas range, and a great island for visiting while preparing meals. The dining room table has four large comfortable chairs as well as the additional seating at the island bar. An optional leather bench (currently in the Master BR) is available if you would like to squeeze 2-3 more at the table as it has a built in leaf for expansion.

A private and charming outdoor space in back with a wood firepit and a propane heater make enjoying the cooler nights in Portland comfortable. The covered outdoor dining table with two barstools and a BBQ grill (charcoal with a propane coal starter) make dinner outside easy. There is a loveseat and two comfortable chairs which make this space perfect for your morning cup of coffee in the sunshine, or a glass of your favorite wine in the evening. The front porch is also private and a great way to watch the passing world go by. There is a bistro table for two, loveseat and extra metal chair to lounge in and watch the sunset. String lights that are dimmable by a remote control provide the perfect backlighting for both spaces.

As a reminder, the loft is located on top of a separate basement apartment and there will likely be other guests at the property. There are no shared spaces and guests will not have access to your space. Please note this home does not have washer/dryer access and does have two sets of stairs to access.

FREE street parking available.

This home accepts up to (1) pre-approved Dog, 25 lbs or smaller. We are NOT able to accommodate cats due to allergies. Please be sure to read our Pet Policy before booking.

We hope you enjoy your stay and will leave you with your full privacy, including check in and check out, unless you would like interaction or additional recommendations. We are avid foodies and love to eat out and will include our inside recommendations in the manual. Having traveled the world, Portland is easily one of the best restaurant/bar scenes in America and you are right in the middle of it. That's why we chose to live in Buckman.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the private unit and private outdoor space.

The Neighborhood:
Buckman is a neighborhood in the Southeast section of Portland, Oregon. The neighborhood is bounded by the Willamette River on the west, E Burnside St. on the north, SE 28th Ave. on the east, and SE Hawthorne Blvd. on the south. The Buckman neighborhood is in a great location as it is in close proximity to some of Portland’s most hip and popular neighborhoods such as Kerns, Laurelhurst, and Belmont. Residents have plenty of independent retail, coffee, pub, and dining options just a stone’s throw away in most cases across several adjoining neighborhoods.
Buckman’s Hawthorne District is one of the most unique, and most popular areas in Southeast Portland. The area is known for its wonderfully restored Old Portland homes, liberal residents, and fun and funky feel. The street is lined with unique restaurants and shops and has a definite Portland-local flair. Local area standouts are Slow Bar, Rontoms, My Father’s Place, and the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub. The closest include:
- The Low Tide: A vegetarian Mexican restaurant/bar with great outdoor seating and lively bar scene inside. The nacho’s are HUGE! (Dogs allowed outside)
- Beer: A full bar that is open all day/evening and has a broad range of local draft selections (Dogs allowed inside and outside!) and is right next to Revolution Hall where there is a large dog park
- The Vern: A throwback dive bar with a great outdoor patio in back with personal, on table heaters (Dogs allowed outside)
- The Eastburn: Great brunch option and their food is very good (Dogs allowed outside which are picnic tables in front of the restaurant)
- The Screen Door: Iconic brunch stop in Portland with some favorites that include their Banana’s Foster French toast, Praline Bacon and Fried Chicken and Waffles (unsure about dog policy).
- Ken’s Artisan Pizza: Easily one of the best pizza and Italian restaurants in the city. No reservations and no outdoor space (sorry puppies) but their pizza, roasted market vegetables with whipped house made ricotta and a side order of their own amazing bread (you have to request…it isn’t on the menu) makes a little time away from the puppy well worth it.
Compared to most other areas of Portland, there is so much to eat and drink in Buckman that you can spend every day trying a new place and it will take you over a year to get to them all. Buckman is a foodie’s paradise, but it’s also home to a wide array of local microbreweries. In case you weren’t aware, Portland has more microbreweries per capita than any other city in the world, and it seems that almost all of them call Buckman home.

Getting Around:
To have an authentic Portland experience, there is no need to leave the neighborhood. Shopping, dining and entertainment are abundant. This is very urban area convenient for walking, biking or using public transportation. Portland also has a wonderful Bike Share BIKETOWN located all over Portland Metro. You could get around efficiently with an UBER. Public Transportation is close by with a bus stop only a few minute walk from the house. You can use the buses and the MAX light rail to get anywhere in Portland Metro. Great Coffee, dining and a grocery store blocks from the property. The 15 bus ($2.50 which is good for 2 hours) which is a 3 minute walk away at 20th and Morrison will take you to downtown or all the way to the NW district (and right to the Portland Timbers stadium) to try some of their fantastic restaurants including Bar West, Carina Lounge, North 45 Pub, St. Jack, and G-Love among many more.

Interaction with Guests:
I can be available by text message, phone call or email. I try to give my guests complete privacy but live close by and can be available if needed. The owner lives onsite but does not want to be disturbed so if you need anything please contact me directly.

Gorgeous space!
Beautiful, recently updated apartment in great condition with lots of space and light. Kitchen is fantastic and the back garden is a real treat. TVs in every room, and a huge bathroom with great shower. AC in the main living area works great, but the bedrooms do get a bit hot if you're staying in the middle of summer. Neighborhood isn't the most lively and streets are busy with cars, but Burnside is a short stroll away and there are a few coffee shops within walking distance. We felt that our stay here was a fantastic value, and we'd absolutely come back.

Lovely!
My coworker and I had such a nice time staying here during our business trip! The home was SO clean, felt homey, and was super cozy during our rainy stay. We would absolutely stay again, and knowing how stocked the kitchen is we would definitely plan to cook a few more meals there. Thanks for everything!

Convenient Location
Our trip to Portland was for surgery at Providence. This location was a 5 minute drive so that worked well for us. Very comfortable bed and the house is stocked with everyou might need and then some.

Buckman & Lone Fir
This home was perfect for our holiday stay. We have family living in Portland so were able to host several dinners at the house. The kitchen was perfect for several of us to cook together. We also took regular walks at the nearby Lone Fir historic cemetery. It was rainy (hello Portland) and the location of the house gave us ample opportunity to walk around the Buckman area! We enjoyed the house and the stay very much.

Great townhome needing a few adjustments
This renovated old house, now a new townhouse, had everything you need for a great stay, including a well-furnished kitchen, comfortable furniture, lovely bathroom, & good air conditioning in a fun neighborhood. The interior is artistically interesting too. The downsides are the king bed was uncomfortable for two to sleep comfortably as the mattress sits on a metal frame & springs; if anyone moved, the whole mattress moved! The ceiling fan has one switch for the fan & attached light. The step stool was not tall enough for us to pull the strings to adjust the light or fan & the bed was too unstable to use as a platform to manage this issue. If the beds & fan-light issue could be remedied, I'd give the place a 5/5 rating.

Great Walking Location
I had a fantastic stay here, it is so easy and fun to walk around the area and explore the many local businesses. SE Belmont is very trendy and has great options to eat and drink. There are also coffee shops, music venues, and breweries right nearby. I was pretty busy when in Portland, but loved having a green space a few blocks away to walk my dog, and grab a coffee and pastry before starting my day. Additionally this is the best set up kitchen I've ever seen in a rental, fully stocked for baking with sugar and flours, spices etc along with great knifes and kitchen amenities. The shower is WONDERFUL. The bed is pretty comfy and the porch out back was lovely. Overall beautiful place to stay, will be looking to book again in the future!
