Pack a picnic and head to one of the sandy beaches accessed from East Portlemouth, or rent a boat to explore this beautiful estuary, discovering hidden coves along the way. For the walkers, follow the South West Coast Path for breathtaking coastal walks. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including birds, seals, and the occasional dolphin. Each walk offers stunning views and the chance to connect with nature, not forgetting to try your hand at fishing or crabbing, delighting both children and adults.
Waterhead Cottage has been renovated with luxury touches and coastal charm and comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests. It features five beautiful bedrooms with pretty water and countryside views. Plus, it's dog friendly too making every moment that bit sweeter!
Wander down the private track to your private retreat. Enter the light and airy hallway to find a boot room for all those wellies, dryrobes and beach shoes, a washing machine, tumble dryer and a useful belfast sink for rinsing out those sandy swimmers. Leading from this hallway you will find a serene spacious bedroom sitting in this private area of the cottage, a super king with french doors opening up to the wraparound terrace to let that evening sea breeze in or welcome the new day with the birdsong nearby. This bedroom also benefits from a large walk in rainfall shower room en suite, with loo and basin and a beautiful starry tiled floor.
Return along the hallway to find the glorious kitchen, open plan dining and lounge area. Two extra large opening doors frame the room with views over this waterside paradise...wander onto the wraparound terrace for morning coffee inspired by the glorious vista surrounding you. The fully equipped kitchen with additional Smeg refrigerator, modern range oven, kitchen island, dishwasher and wine chiller cabinet has everything you need to make this holiday memorable, cooking those fresh seafood suppers from the wonderful Salcombe fishermen nearby. The dining table sits 10 comfortably and two comfy squashy sofas and armchairs invite you to flop, rest and relax, recounting the days adventures with your loved ones.
The kitchen, dining, and lounge area at Waterhead Cottage are designed to be both functional and inviting, making them perfect for both quiet relaxation and lively gatherings. The cohesive design creates a charming, coastal-inspired retreat where guests can cook, dine, and unwind in comfort and style. After a long day out on the water, watch your favourite programme or read a book in the cosy family snug with woodburner, Smart TV and floppy beanbags to really kick back.
Heading upstairs are a further four large plush bedrooms all with pretty waterside views, a king bedroom (with an en suite shower room), a super king, and two super king/twin rooms, perfect for young family or friends. Each bedroom has ample storage ensuring you can unpack and feel at home. Thoughtful details such as reading lamps, selected artwork and a nod of antique furniture offers a charming escape from the world.
For convenience on the first floor you will find a luxury family bathroom, with starry tiles, a bath to soak away those aching limbs or let the little ones have bath time fun before tucking up in their cosy beds as well as a family shower room.
Waterhead Cottage has a private garden and a wraparound terrace with outdoor furniture, ideal for alfresco dining or enjoying those sundowners. Try your hand at barbecuing with a traditional Asado Grill on the terrace, steaks from Salcombe Meat Company are a must. Meals outside in this private piece of paradise taste so much better.
Salcombe is just five minutes away by boat - for those who want to pick up the papers and enjoy a barista-prepared coffee in the morning.
After a day of exploration, gather around the wood-burning stove in snug for storytelling evenings. Share tales of your adventures, or read aloud from "Swallows and Amazons" books, bringing the magic of the stories to life.
Small things to note:
Access to property is via a steep track below the parking area - we advise you wear practical footwear for this. Little ones or elderly will likely need assistance. There is a handrail half way down for assistance
Parking for three cars is at the top of the track on the opposite side of the lane
You're very welcome to bring two dogs along with you. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break
Babies and children of all ages are most welcome at Waterhead Cottage. Two travel cots and high chairs are available should you wish (please request these when placing your booking)
Please note you will need to use the car to visit local pubs and restaurants as the cottage is in a peaceful rural location. Maximum 10-15 minutes drive only to The Millbrook Inn, Gara Rock Hotel and the famous Pigs Nose.
