A lovely old pub with great beer. Shrewsbury is a lovely town and Cromwell's is located in a very nice part. The food at the pub looked great, but we didn't eat there. The room decor was rather old and worn out, for example towel rail was rusty, hair dryer broken and no extractor in bathroom. It needs new furnishings and a lick of paint. The bed however, was comfortable and the staff very nice and helpful. Checking out was also easy. Be warned this is a pub so there is noise at night from the bar. A great location and bit of Shrewsbury history.

Historical building in centre of town, close to all amenities. Welcome atmosphere and our Host very knowledgeable. Well supported even during the week, music can be heard upstairs but only for a short while.

We stayed here on a Saturday night. The stay was ok. The room was very warm so had to sleep with the window open. Also we stayed in a room above the bar which was very loud. Even once bar was shut at midnight we could hear the bar staff chatting and laughing while tidying up which meant it was gone 2am before I could get to sleep

Our stay at Cromwell's tap house was average on the whole. Bed was comfortable. Being above a pub isn't ideal, noise until midnight. Also on a busy road. But it did it's job, gave us somewhere cheap to stay for the night

Very good value and great location Staff excellent and freindly Only downside is that its right by the road and is quite noisy through the night...windos are also original ( listed building) and even though secondary glazing has been added it is far from sound proof

Stayed 1 night, small but practical room. Uneven floors but to be expected with how old it is. The outside sash window wouldnt close properly, so it was a good job inner windows closed. Was noisy as on the street. Thanks for the stay

Easy check-in with friendly staff. Outside the premises got a bit noisy in the morning (07:30) which would not be ideal if you were leaving a lie-in. Room was tidy and clean but nothing special. I would stay here again.

Suited our needs
Our stay was for Shrewsbury Folk Festival, and it was certainly closer than previous places we've stayed: a quite manageable walk to the site. None of the places where we've stayed in Shrewsbury have been anything marvellous, to be honest, so we were prepared to live with the Cromwell not doing breakfast and with it being noisy at night. It is a pub, and we were directly above the bar, so noise was to be expected. Lack of parking might also deter some, but we parked at the Festival site. The room was clean and everything worked, and the old building with its uneven floor had a certain charm. All in all, it fulfilled our specific requirements.
