The Space:
Woodland Retreat is a well-designed Mazama residence spanning 2,200sq.ft. with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, plus a loft. Situated in the Liberty Woodlands community, it boasts wood log accents and vaulted ceilings with big windows, offering a serene ambiance. The main floor features a centrally-placed kitchen, large great room, and 3 private bedrooms. The great room includes a stone fireplace with gas insert stove, dining table for 8, and sliding doors opening onto the deck.
Downstairs, there's a bathroom with bath and shower over, a king bed bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and 2 additional queen bedrooms. Upstairs, the loft space offers a TV, two easy chairs, a queen bed, and a sit/standing desk that offers a comfortable set up for remote work with the high speed internet. Carpets are throughout except in tiled bathrooms, kitchen and entryway. Mini-split air conditioning units provide heating and cooling for the great room and downstairs bedrooms. Outside, the patio boasts views of Goat Peak through the trees and is furnished with outdoor chairs and a BBQ grill, creating a private setting for relaxation. The location, just off highway 20 and nestled below Lucky Jim Bluff, offers easy access to trails and a short drive to both Winthrop, and Mazama with its store, pub and trailheads.
The Neighborhood:
MAZAMA
The Liberty Woodlands community is located 3.5 miles) from the Mazama Store and the Methow Trails trailhead (for access to hiking, mountain biking, cross-country ski and snow-shoe trails). In addition to the store with its renowned bakery and groceries, Mazama is home to the Goat’s Beard outdoor store (with mountain bike and fat bike rentals), the Mazama Ski School for cross country ski lessons and rentals, and the popular Mazama Public House for local brews, food and music.
From winter 2024/25 we are expecting a new groomed nordic ski trail connecting Liberty Woodlands to Timberline Meadows and the John's Way Trail, providing a connection to Mazama and the Upper Valley trail system. This new trail will pass a few yards from the cabin making this a ski-in ski-out property. The lower valley trails can be accessed from the trailhead at Brown's Farm 2 miles down the road (a future trail is also planned to connect direct from Liberty Woodlands).
NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK
Woodland Retreat is also conveniently situated for easy access to the North Cascades and the trailheads to many of the Park's world-class hiking trails. It’s under a 25-minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 30 minutes to Washington Pass and 35 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead.
WINTHROP Woodland Retreat is also just 10 miles down the road from the old west town of Winthrop, with it’s popular shopping and art galleries, the Shafer Museum (lots of local history), bakeries and dining establishments. The Winthrop Rink boasts one of North America’s only NHL-sized outdoor rinks, hosting ice-related activities for the entire family in winter, and active sport and pickleball courts in the summer months. Winthrop’s annual calendar of events includes the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial and Labor Day Rodeos, and Christmas At The End Of The Road (check the town’s website for details).
Getting Around:
Getting Here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over State Route 20 and Washington Pass, also known as the scenic “American Alps” (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or via highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combined, these routes make up the scenic Cascade Loop. The nearest major airports are Spokane International Airport at 180 miles (year round) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (190 miles in summer / 260 miles in winter). Regional flights are also available at Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee, located 102 miles away.
Getting Around: Nearest winter trail is the Methow Community Trail. The Mazama Store is 3.5 miles / 6 minute drive Winthrop is 10 miles / 15 minutes drive. Okanogan County Transit Authority’s Trango service provides Mon – Sat transportation to/from Twisp to Mazama from roughly 7AM to 7PM.

The Inn Pool - guests of our cabin may use The Inn at Mazama outdoor pool (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and tennis/pickleball court located at 15 Country Road in Mazama. The cost to use the pool is $10/guest/day and you should check in at the front desk before heading to the pool. The Inn also has a co-working space and private offices available to rent by the day in case you need space to work during your stay.
