With a mix of beaches and botanic gardens, museums, food and music festivals, it's easy to see why this is South Australia's coastal, cultural and culinary hub.

Adelaide has a population of just over 1.2 million inhabitants and has amassed a wealth of diverse culture over the years as a result of European and Asian immigrants choosing to settle here. European settlers brought vine cuttings with them and, thanks to its warm Mediterranean-like climate and some hard work, the region has prospered into one of the finest wine-producing locations in Australia. Boasting famous regions like McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and the Barossa Valley, wine-tasting is a must. The picturesque German settlement town of Hahndorf is not far from the city and is home to a chocolate factory and a strawberry farm where you can even pick your own strawberries. The Adelaide Botanic Gardens is a haven in the heart of the bustling city. Relax at the park's café, taking in the peaceful verdant surroundings or bring a romantic picnic for you and that special someone to share. Or, if it's fun and games you're looking for, The Beachhouse has all the entertainment you'll need for a great day out. Just minutes away is the beachside neighbourhood of Glenelg – the perfect location for a swim in the blue or a stroll along the jetty. If you're an avid shopper, Adelaide's pedestrian shopping district, Rundle Mall, will leave you reeling as you scramble from shop to shop on a hunt for the best bargains. Take a load off and refuel at the great café scene on Rundle Street or, if you're a little more peckish, Gouger Street caters for a wide range of tastes and budgets. After taking a bite out of the local cuisine, why not sample the local history too? North Terrace is home to the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australia Museum, full of works depicting the city's cultural and historical background. March is a great time to visit Adelaide with a multitude of festivals taking over the city. The Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Clipsal 500 Car race, the Adelaide Festival and the hugely popular WOMADelaide world music festival all take place around this time and transform the city into a jam-packed hive of entertainment. With so much to see and do, Adelaide is one city that won't leave you disappointed.

Shopping's a bit sucky compared to Sydney and Melbourne, but great for a change of pace from Sydney and Melbourne!

Great vibe in the city at this time of year. Thoroughly enjoyed attending the writers' festival, the Fringe and WOMADelaide. Great food options throughout the city, although Adelaide is not the cheapest place to eat.
