Accompanied by explanations in Italian, English and French from our guides, we will discover why so many peoples fought to protect or conquer this portion of territory enclosed between the Peloritani Mountains and the Etna Volcano. First stop the Alcantara Gorges with its famous prismatic basalts. We will then go up the valley towards the “Grotticelle di Orgale” dating back to the pre-Hellenic period. In another stretch of the river we will visit one of the most fascinating testimonies of Byzantine domination, the Cuba of Santa Domenica, near Castiglione di Sicilia. Afterwards we will visit the “eccentric little volcano” of Mojo Alcantara from whose top you can observe the whole valley. Upon request, you can continue the tour with a travelling lunch organised by the “Le Mamme del Borgo” association of Motta Camastra, a small culinary journey through the medieval streets of one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The excursion is offered with a “pick-up” service directly from your hotel or with a “meeting point” to be agreed.
