Its construction dates back to 1586, it was not until 1726 that it was enabled as a “San Andrés” hospital and later this facility became part of the “Las Carmelitas” cloistered nun convent. Like other emblematic buildings in the city, the convent was declared a National Historic Monument on July 14, 1941.

The Monument to the Victory of Salta or the Monument to February 20, arose after the decision of the General Assembly to build a monument in honour of the memorable Battle of Salta and the important victory in defence of the principles of independence. One hundred years passed until the result of the beautiful work could be seen, which was born from a brick monument, a wooden cross and the donation of four blocks located in the Campo de la Cruz. The prolongation of the war and civil conflicts delayed the execution.
