What you can expect

Visit Sillustani, a pre-Incan burial ground located in a small peninsular plateau in the Lake Umayo, about 20 miles (32 km) from the city of Puno. Begin your excursion with brief stops to see waru-warus, or ancient farming systems, before approaching funerary towers called chullpas.

The towers within the burial ground house the remains of entire groups of families who were conquered by the Inca in the 15th century. The well-preserved site is said to feature some of the best and most complex examples of Incan architecture.

From this point, enjoy views of Lake Umayo and the contrast of the majestic towers with the arid Altiplano landscape. Learn more about the grounds, their architecture, and their influence on the culture of Cusco from your knowledgeable guide.
