Meet the different ethnic minority people of the Muong Hoa Valley. Stay the night at the local house of a Giay minority family, and go for nature walks and forest treks in Hoang Lien National Park.
Day 1: Sa Pa – Y Linh Ho – Lao Chai – Ta Van (L, D)
Take a short walk through Sa Pa town centre before heading down to the village of Y Linh Ho in the Muong Hoa River valley. Trek to the Black Hmong village of Lao Chai, and learn about one of the largest ethnic minority groups of the region. Discover how they are proud of their culture, including wearing traditional indigo blue clothes and speaking their own language.
Continue to Ta Van village, 1,200 metres above sea level to get acquainted with the Dzay minority people who live mainly in the mountains of northwest Vietnam. Be captivated by their houses built of wood and bamboo. Spend the night in a Giay minority people homestay, and enjoy some free time in the evening to swim in the river or go for a nature walk.
Day 2: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Su Pan – Sa Pa (B, L)
Wake to a delicious breakfast, and then embark on a 3-hour hike with lunch break. Visit the Red Dao minority village of Giang Ta Chai, and hike through a bamboo forest in Hoang Lien National Park. Marvel at the flora and fauna as you enjoy your lunch in a scenic spot. Proceed towards Su Pan, from where you will journey back to Sa Pa by car, arriving by 2:30 or 3:00 PM.
