Embark on a 3-day rafting adventure along the Rio La Venta, known as the “Sacred Canyon.” Admire the majestic and awe-inspiring landscape, with walls reaching up to 400 metres in height, water seeping through them, creating fantastic limestone formations known as “Christmas trees,” and one of the most incredible natural arches in the world.
Day 1:
Depart from San Cristóbal de las Casas at 6:00 AM towards Aguacero (a 2.5-hour journey), where you will have breakfast. Descend 900 steps to the riverbank and embark on inflatable rafts to paddle approximately 20 km to your camping spot. Witness the canyon narrowing, navigate Class II rapids, and visit the La Conchuda waterfall. Spend the night in the Oquedad, 8 metres from the river.
Day 2:
In the morning, hike to caves located 40 metres above ground, once inhabited by the ancient Zoque culture, where you'll observe archaeological remains. This day, raft 13 km with Class 3 rapids and camp alongside the “La Media Luna” archaeological site.
Day 3:
Explore the “La Media Luna” archaeological site, then paddle for approximately 1 hour before embarking on a 2.5-hour hike, ascending 250 metres to reach the village where your waiting vehicle will return you to San Cristóbal de las Casas. Arrive around 4:00 PM.
Enjoy camping equipment, river gear, expert guides, major medical expenses insurance, and meals.
