Close But Far.... Cool da Heels

Aloha travlers!

I'm very happy to see that you made it through these last couple of months, it certianly has been one for the history books!
If you are feeling the urge to venture out, Hotel Pa'amalu may be the very place for you. We are now accepting reservations from safety minded travelers. Our cottage is located on a three acre mango farm and your closest neighbor is located twice as far as your best mango toss on a good day!
Hotel Pa'amalu is the only one room hotel in Kealakekua Hawaii. Hotel Pa'amalu is a blend of Polynesia, Indonesia and amnesia. Come swim in our warm tropical waters or explore the enchanting tropical rain forests atop Kilauea, possibly the most active volcano on the plantet. Plan your day while lounging on the lanai, comforted by the warm gentle trade wind breezes.
You can begin your day 5 minutes from historical Kealakekua Bay, on the leeward slopes of Mauna Loa on the island of Hawaii. The weather is warm, sunny and mild all year long...yes all year long.
Hotel Pa'amalu is not really a hotel, I just thought that was a catchy name. My dad, friends and I built this little house a few years back. I would, however, describe it as a small story book cottage, welcoming you to write your own chapter. We are settled just up slope from an old Hawaiian fishing village known as Keei. We are surrounded by many different varieties of mangos, bananas and other horticultural surprises including our native geckos.
Hotel Pa'amalu is a fun, retreat, romantic get away, or a brief interlude as you travel our beautiful islands.
Thanks so much for visiting, hope to hear from you soon!
Aloha......
Oh, if you come during mango season you may never leave the lanai!

Very comfortable private cottage on a mango and orchid farm.
This is a peaceful, private setting since the farm isn't being intensively. We especially enjoyed sitting on the screened back deck watching a variety of birds frolic in the continuously running water feature.

Awesome
If you are looking to get away and off the beaten path, a bit, you will be hard pressed to find a better spot so close to the bay and 2 steps while staying among mango orchards. Great atmosphere and great host.

Very nice cottage near Two Step
Great little cottage for a Big Island stay. Very comfortable bed, wonderful open-air veranda. Kitchen is a little bit long in the tooth, but well equipped. Would stay there again on future trips.

Cute cottage
This small cottage had a great screen porch and a view of the ocean in the distance. It was very convenient to City of Refuge and Painted Church. It was not fancy but charming and nice in an old school way. Cozy and good for a couple.

Beautiful Setting, Abundance of Nature…
Overall a bit conflicted about our stay. Absolutely loved the area, the beauty, tranquility and setting. The place is definitely cool with unlimited potential. The interior needs a bit of tightening up. A few things need to be replaced or worked on, screws tightened, kitchen floorboards replaced, sealant applied, etc…. I think it would’ve been helpful to get a better idea beforehand of a few things. I would have liked to know what was jumping on the roof and scratching around outside. Made it a bit difficult to sleep initially. The host is super nice and accommodating. Absolutely stunning setting!

Cool Da Heels is a peaceful gem.
This was our second time staying at Cool Da Heels and was just as lovely as our previous stay. Immaculate, cozy, tastefully decorated and peaceful, it provided an ideal home base location to explore the southern part of Hawaii Island as well as Volcanoes National Park. It's only 30 minutes to the restaurants and shops of Kona and the beautiful southern beaches of the Kohala coast. While the bathroom is remodeled with an open shower, the kitchen is a bit dated, but fully functional and well appointed. There's no AC but the trade winds and a ceiling fan are sufficient. The owner is responsive yet unobtrusive and checkin/checkout was a breeze. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

A lovely and peaceful stay
For those wanting a more authentic, calm & beautiful place to base your big island stay, this cottage is highly recommended. Good location- like the title says, “close but far”- close enough to Kona for dining/shopping, etc, but feels far away from the crowds. Very quiet & private. Loved waking to birds singing & frolicking in the fountain. Sunsets from the screened lanai were amazing . We had everything we needed for a 10 night stay. Wonderful host, too!

Peaceful with a beautiful view
The property was wonderful - view of the ocean and the sunsets, bird bath with tons of birds taking advantage, and everything we needed to be comfortable. Host was easy to reach and ready to help. We spent most of our time on the lanai. Great way to visit the Big Island!

Just AWESOME
Everything about this place was great! Far enough away from the city but close enough if you need anything. Very quiet all day long and Kai was great. He came down, introduced himself and gave us a farm tour! The Mangoes were the best I've ever eaten. Will definitely stay again when we visit Kona. Thank you Kai!

Perfect house close enough to enjoy the city but far enough away to enjoy nature.
This was the perfect getaway spot for my husband and me! You can hear the waves crashing in the bay which made sleeping amazing. You can drive 5 minutes down the road to snorkel or relax at the bay or take a quick 20 min drive into Kona. The host is superb! He took time out of his day to come down and personally greet us (even in the pouring rain) and make sure we had everything we needed. If you are looking for something away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to enjoy THIS is the place!

Hawaiian Paradise!
This is THE place to stay if you're coming to the Island to immerse yourself in the Paradise that is Hawaii! Idyllic setting with fragrant orchids, exceptional mangoes, fresh tangelos and bananas, delicate birdsong to serenade you the day through, the sound of surf in Kealakekua Bay, the brilliant stars in the unpolluted night sky, and sunsets that you'll remember for years. A well-equipped, beautifully constructed cottage with everything you'll need to prepare food at-home, or to store your goodies from some of the great eateries close by. One of the most comfortable beds we've slept in, along with luxurious easy chairs and sofa, all surrounded by a well-curated and eclectic Polynesian decor. Just beautiful! Sooo many good places to eat! Stop at ChoiceMart for local and nation (world!) wide products. Da Bomb Grindz will Wow! your tastebuds. Try out Big Jake's BBQ (best I've ever had - really), The Coffee Shack, Shaka Tacos, farm stands all through Napoopoo, Painted Church, Middle Keei, Mamalahoa Hwy. Close by is Two-Step and Manini Beach for some of the best snorkeling on the Island. Watch the surfers at Ke'ei Beach from your lanai. Walk the 1871 Trail at Honaunau National Historic Park. All within a 10 minute drive. Such a great location! Kaimalu is a responsive, gracious, welcoming host to his small farm. Let the cool island breezes lull you to sleep at night and wake you to your new day in this Eden.

Fantastic place for Two!
Loved the artistry and layout of this little cabin. It was a great place to spend the day hanging out taking a walk and reading or as a place to head out for a driving adventure to other locations - for snorkeling, hiking (volcanoes), and such. The two of us loved our time here and look forward to returning some day. Thank-you to the host!
