"At the time of writing, this hotel has a 9.2 on Expedia. That is truly absurd. This hotel is old (they don’t call it “historic” for nothing) and run down (featuring peeling wallpaper, a saggy matress, threadbare carpet and a kitchen that looks like it was built in the 80s). Making things worse, there is literally not a single thing of interest in Kumara (it only exists because it is a stop on the West Coast Wilderness Trail). "This property is very unique and one used by at least some of the bicycle tours. There are sheds for charging e-bikes, cottages, rooms in the old Bank of New Zealand and the hotel. We stayed in a cottage which was excellent for our needs, being able to have breakfast, cook when we wanted or go to the Hotel restaurant which had very good food. We were within easy commuting distance to various sites and hiking trails, that were excellent."
