Tokyo Flights
An extraordinarily lively city, Tokyo is a destination that will never leave you bored. From the modern shopping district of Shibuya to the culturally and historically rich Sumida; the vibrant nightlife on Roppongi to the peaceful solitude of Taito, there is not a single corner of this unique locale that does not have something of real value to offer its visitors.
Although the city itself can be expensive, cheap flights to Tokyo are easy to find if you plan ahead.
Best time to travel to Tokyo
Peak Season:
Unlike other destinations, accommodation and flights to Tokyo are actually reasonably-priced during its peak season, which falls from April to May and September to November. Despite this, the city is still thronged with visitors who come to take advantage of the temperate weather, and view the foliage turn in the Meguro district and the cherry blossoms bloom at Yoyogi Park.
Shoulder Season:
While most locals will try to flee the hot weather from July to August, tourists still manage to flood the city. If you do not mind the warmth, this is a great time to play at the Nekobukuro or at the Tokyo Dome, stroll through Ueno-Kōen, or take a Sumida-Gawa river cruise.
Off Season:
Crowds are thin and flights are inexpensive from December to January. These months tend to be cold, but they offer quite a bit to those willing to brave the climate, such as a chance to tour the Imperial Palace on the Emperor’s birthday in December, mingle with the locals at a Kabuki-za performance, or view the Kiyosumi Teien garden in peace.
Tokyo Airport and transfer information
Narita International Airport (NRT)
Distance: 64km northeast of Tokyo
Two of the quickest and most expensive methods of ground transport from the airport are the Skyliner train and the numerous taxi services. These options usually take under 36 minutes to arrive in the city.
Alternatively, you can take a shuttle bus or the Keisei Limited Express train. These choices are significantly cheaper, but can take over an hour to arrive at your destination.
