"Really enjoyed our stay at Ashbys. Steve and Mubi were warm, welcoming and helpful and the room and public spaces (lounge / games room, kitchen, bar area) were comfortable and well equipped. It was clear that a lot of thought has been given to making Ashbys a unique place to stay: welcoming, relaxing and fun. A great location too for the bars, seafront and Southsea attractions! Our bathroom window needed a blind - more for the neighbours than anything! - and the bedroom a second bedside table...

"Heather was an amazing host; a lovely lady who made you feel very welcome from arrival until departure. Breakfast, although continental had a very wide range of choice. Menu's were available to order a takeaway which we did on arrival. Safe parking is available at the property, along with ironing facilities. Yes, the building is worn and dated and could benefit from some repairs and decoration, but if you're just doing a quick visit which we were, this is a great choice."

"Self service so expected some instructions - couldnt get tv to work. Coffee, tea n sugar provided - no milk. Kettle supplied on shelf - no plug nearby. Low light - difficult to read. However good location, warn and clean - also cheap. :)"

"A really lovely little place to stay. The room was spacious and the bed super comfortable. Having kitchen facilities to use is a bonus although we didn’t use them. The shower wasn’t great (rain head only) and I really struggled to work it. It would also be great to have a mirror in the bedroom area for getting ready as the only mirror was in the bathroom. "

"Room was a little tired but overall okay. Minor issues like ripped wallpaper etc. My only issue was the fact the latch was slightly damaged on the inside so I had no way to properly lock the door. I had to put the chain on and shove a doorstop under the door, as a solo female traveller this made me a little uncomfortable. Walls are very thin so be aware if you’re a light sleeper.
